Pravčická Gate – The Symbol of Bohemian Switzerland
Pravčická Gate is the most famous natural landmark of the Bohemian Switzerland National Park and the largest natural sandstone arch in Europe. Every year, thousands of visitors come to admire this extraordinary geological wonder and enjoy the breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape.
Although access to the top of the sandstone arch has been prohibited for many years to protect this unique natural monument, visitors can enjoy several nearby viewpoints. These offer spectacular panoramas of Pravčická Gate itself, as well as the dense forests, towering sandstone formations, and the picturesque scenery of Bohemian Switzerland.
The site also includes the historic Falcon's Nest (Sokolí hnízdo), a charming chateau built in the 19th century as an excursion restaurant. Today, it houses a stylish restaurant with its original interior decoration and exhibitions dedicated to the history of this remarkable location. The building itself is one of the most photographed places in the entire national park.
How to Get to Pravčická Gate
From Hřensko:
The shortest route follows the red hiking trail. The walk begins with approximately two kilometres (1.2 miles) along the road towards the Tři Prameny (Three Springs) junction, after which the trail continues through the forest. The final section is relatively steep, but visitors are rewarded with beautiful views and quick access to the site.
From Mezní Louka:
A longer but easier route follows the famous Gabriela Trail. This scenic hike is approximately six kilometres (3.7 miles) long and passes through peaceful forests, beneath towering sandstone cliffs, and past several viewpoints overlooking the surrounding countryside. Thanks to its gentler elevation, it is especially popular with recreational hikers.
Both routes include uneven terrain and are not suitable for strollers or visitors with limited mobility.

To experience the very best of Bohemian Switzerland in a single day, combine your visit to Pravčická Gate with a romantic boat trip through the Kamenice River Gorges. One of the most popular circular routes starts in Hřensko, continues via Pravčická Gate and Mezní Louka, and returns through the gorges back to Hřensko. This unforgettable journey combines spectacular viewpoints, scenic forest trails, and traditional boat rides through the sandstone canyon.
