Kamenice River Gorges – An Unforgettable Boat Trip Through the Heart of Bohemian Switzerland

The Kamenice River Gorges are among the most popular natural attractions of the Bohemian Switzerland National Park. A romantic boat ride on traditional flat-bottomed boats takes visitors to places that are otherwise inaccessible. Towering sandstone cliffs, crystal-clear water, and the peaceful atmosphere of the surrounding forest create a truly unforgettable experience that visitors remember long after returning home.

Boat trips operate in two sections – Edmund's Gorge and the Wild Gorge. The longer Edmund's Gorge offers a scenic cruise of approximately 20 minutes, while the Wild Gorge delights visitors with a journey lasting around 15 minutes. Boats operate in both directions, and during the trip the boatman entertains passengers with fascinating stories about the local nature, history, and regional legends.

The two gorges are connected by a short walking trail that follows the picturesque Kamenice River. Along the way, visitors can take a break at Mezní Bridge, where refreshments and a pleasant place to relax are available in a peaceful forest setting.

How to Get to the Gorges

Edmund's Gorge:
The most popular route begins in Hřensko and follows the Kamenice River along an easy hiking trail approximately 2 kilometres (1.2 miles) long. The path passes beneath impressive rock overhangs, through a tunnel carved into the sandstone, and leads directly to the boat dock. The gorge can also be reached via marked hiking trails from the villages of Růžová and Mezná.

Wild Gorge:
This section can be reached from Mezní Louka by following the blue hiking trail and then descending via the yellow trail to the boat landing.

Suggested Day Trip

One of the most popular hiking routes combines the two greatest natural attractions of Bohemian Switzerland – Pravčická Gate and the Kamenice River Gorges. The circular route starts in Hřensko, continues via Pravčická Gate and Mezní Louka, and returns through the gorges. The hike is approximately 15 kilometres (9 miles) long and offers spectacular viewpoints, beautiful forest trails, and the unforgettable experience of a traditional boat ride through the sandstone canyon.

Where to Eat and Relax

There are several excellent places to stop for refreshments along the route. Restaurants, cafés, and guesthouses can be found in Hřensko, Mezní Louka, and the village of Mezná. Another pleasant stop is Mezní Bridge, where visitors can enjoy refreshments surrounded by nature before continuing their journey.

A boat trip through the Kamenice River Gorges perfectly combines breathtaking scenery, the tranquility of ancient forests, and the unique atmosphere of Bohemian Switzerland. It is no surprise that visitors return here time and time again.
